Description

This position aims to develop scientific research activities in the thematic area of ​​urban social movements in defense of the right to housing, with a special focus in the case of Lisbon - with a comparative view with the case of New York - in the context of increasing gentrification and touristification of the city. The selected researcher will mainly contribute to the objectives of Task 2 by developing the following tasks:

  • Review of the literature on mobilizations for the right to housing and against gentrification in Southern Europe and the USA, and on the movement of houses in Portugal from a longitudinal perspective;
  • Qualitative analysis: participant observation during the activities of the movements, semi-structured interviews, analysis of the frames;
  • Quantitative analysis: creation of a database of protest events in the period 2011-2016;
  • Research - Action in conjunction with movements;
  • Communications in national and international conferences and publication of research results (especially in magazines with a high impact factor);
  • Co-organization of the meetings, seminars and conferences planned by the project.

 

Admission Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Sociology (any subarea). If the PhD has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of October 12;
  • Fluency in Portuguese, English and understanding of other South-European languages ​​(French, Italian, Spanish);
  • Proven research experience in the subject area of ​​the competition.
