After an open call, the CIES-IUL researcher and current director of the School of Sociology and Public Policy Helena Carreiras will be the new director of the National Defense Institute, having already held functions as deputy director of that institute between 2010 and 2012.

Helena Carreiras has a long research career in this area with interests in gender and society research, the armed forces, civil-military relations, public security and defence policies and gender integration in military institutions and the gender dimension in international security. She will be the first woman director of IDN.

The direction of CIES-IUL welcomes this decision and wishes the new director of IDN great success.
