"The lexicon of biographical crises"

Social Analysis, 226, LIII (1st), 2018, pp.88-111.

Abstract

The central objective of this article is to discuss and present a model for the sociological analysis of biographical crises, that is, of phases in the lives of individuals marked by the breakdown of habitual frames of action and thought, with substantial impacts on their trajectories. In a first moment, the main contributions of sociology to the study of this problematic are mapped, namely by identifying what in the literature can be framed in the concept of crisis. The second part of this discussion is based on the identification of the main analytical axes which structure the dimensions of sociological analysis of biographical crises.

Keywords: biographical crisis; life course; rupture; unpredictability.
