The Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology has unveiled its latest publication from Mundos Sociais, O Tripé Inadiável: Trabalho, Emprego e Proteção Social em Portugal. This timely book, authored by Jorge Caleiras and Renato Miguel do Carmo, delves into the critical interplay of work, employment, and social protection in Portugal during a turbulent period marked by the lingering impacts of the global financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and rising inflation.

As job insecurity and unemployment continue to challenge many, the authors call for a reevaluation of the state's role in safeguarding decent work and ensuring a robust social safety net. Highlighting urgent socio-economic concerns, this multidimensional study integrates insights from a diverse array of political and social stakeholders, proposing reflections and strategies geared towards promoting balanced social progress, protecting human rights, and enhancing personal dignity.

The book is not just an academic endeavour; it aims to engage researchers, policymakers, and the general public alike in a critical dialogue about the vulnerabilities within the labour market. It serves as a clarion call for policies that bolster full citizenship in Portugal and urges collective action towards a fairer society—one where the rights to both work and social security are realizable for all.

Tripé Inadiável is now accessible for open access in the Iscte repository, inviting a broad audience to consider, discuss, and contribute to the development of a more equitable future.
