CIES-Iscte, the of the University Institute of Lisbon, has decided to close its account on X (formerly Twitter). This decision stems from recent changes to the platform and a desire to maintain a reliable and trustworthy online presence.
In recent months, X has faced criticism for spreading misinformation, altering its algorithms, and changing its content moderation policies. Given these concerns, CIES has re-evaluated its presence on the platform.
As an institution committed to engaging with society and sharing scientific knowledge, CIES believes that staying on an increasingly unpredictable and intolerant platform could negatively impact the quality of its interactions.
Instead, CIES is focusing on strengthening its presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, and now Bluesky. Additionally, it will continue to invest in direct communication through newsletters and public scientific events.
