On February 20, at 6 pm in the Marvila Library, the book “Gingar na cidade. Bicicleta, participação e transformação do território”, with the participation of the organizers and several authors.
This book, published by Livraria Tigre de Papel, presents the Gingada project and explores the relationship between territory, participation and mobility, especially by bicycle, in the parish of Marvila, Lisbon.
The first part examines Marvila in-depth, looking at the history of popular sport, urban transformations in the riverside and industrial areas and local community mobilization (especially community groups). The second part highlights the bicycle as a tool for work and social inclusion, contextualizing and presenting the Gingada project and other thematically related initiatives in the parish.
This book, organized by Henrique Chaves (GOVCOPP-UA, CIES-IUL and CEM-USP) and Inês Vieira (CeiED—Lusófona University), partners in implementing the Gingada project, and with the participation of several authors, provides a comprehensive overview of mobility and community development in urban territories undergoing transformation.
Gingada is a project co-financed by the BIP/ZIP program (Lisbon City Council) and promoted by the Rés do Chão association (RC) and the Grupo Recreativo Janz a Associados (GRJA). It had a wide range of partners, including the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, the Marvila Library, and CICS.NOVA, CeiED/Universidade Lusófona, the 4 Crescente Community Group and the Marvila Parish Council (JFM).
