Call for Applications for a 1 Postdoctoral Research Grant

The Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte), within the framework of the Iscte Association – Knowledge and Innovation, hereby opens a call for applications for the award of one (1) Postdoctoral Research Grant under the project PuReSC – Public Reception of Science Communication, project no. 2023.17043.ICDT, whose funding has been approved by FCT, I.P., under the following conditions:

Eligibility Requirements

a) A PhD in Sociology, Science and Technology Studies (STS), Communication, or another related field deemed appropriate by the selection committee;
b) Experience in quantitative and qualitative research methodologies;
c) Fluency in spoken and written English.

Where the academic degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be formally recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution, in accordance with Article 25 of Decree-Law No. 66/2018 of 16 August, which establishes the legal framework for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and Article 4(2)(e) of Decree-Law No. 60/2018 of 3 August. All related formalities must be completed by the date of contract signature.


Preferred Qualifications

a) Research experience relevant to the project;
b) Knowledge and experience in quantitative and statistical analyses, preferably in comparative studies, using software such as SPSS and/or R;
c) Experience in qualitative data analysis using software such as NVivo and/or MAXQDA;
d) A high level of independence and autonomy;
e) Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
f) Scientific publications (authorship or co-authorship of peer-reviewed articles);
g) Experience and training in Science Communication will be considered an asset, though not an essential requirement.


Duration of the Grant

The grant will have a duration of six (6) months, with an expected start date in March 2026, and may be renewed up to the maximum limit of the approved funding or up to the maximum duration allowed for this type of grant (whichever occurs first). Under no circumstances may it exceed the limits established in paragraphs 3 and 6 of Article 7 of Regulation No. 950/2019 of 29 November, published in the Diário da República, No. 241, 2nd Series, of 16 December (FCT, I.P. Research Grant Regulations).


Application Period and Submission Procedure

The call is open from 28 January to 18 February 2026, and only applications submitted within this period will be considered.

Applications must be submitted exclusively through the Iscte recruitment portal

and must include the following documents:

a) A detailed Curriculum Vitae;
b) A copy of the doctoral degree certificate;
c) A motivation letter describing the candidate’s research experience and reasons for interest in the position, as well as research interests and future career plans.
