June 28th is the International LGBTI+ Pride Day in honor of the 1969 riots at Stonewall Bar in New York City. In Lisbon, a debate for users and technicians of the Emergency Centres of the Lisbon City Hall, "LGBTI+ rights for homeless people", took place on June 26 at the Youth Hostel of Parque das Nações.

The event was attended by representatives of the Lisbon LGBTI+ Pride March, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Intervention (ILGA Portugal), the Lisbon City Council (Ricardo Fuertes), the Portuguese Parliament (Deputy Fabíola Cardoso) and the visiting researcher from the Centre for Research and Sociology Studies of the University Institute of Lisbon (CIES-Iscte), Dr. Luma Nogueira de Andrade, who sought to debate social responses for homeless people.

Luma Nogueira de Andrade is a professor at the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (UNILAB) and is at CIES-Iscte developing her research project "Lusotransfonia: Transvestites and Transsexuals living in Portugal", under the supervision of Dr. Sandra Saleiro.  Her participation in the debate resulted from her research work and enabled her to meet with Portuguese transvestites and transsexuals and immigrants, in the middle of the COVID 19 pandemic, homeless and in Emergency Centres, with difficulties of social integration due to their characteristics. During the project the researcher has identified some of these difficulties, which she presented in the debate, contributing to respect and guarantee the rights of the homeless trans population in Portugal.

Luma Nogueira de Andrade is the first transvestite doctoral student and university professor in Brazil, having her professional and life experience in the scientific community in order to contribute to the transformation of society, with the dissemination of knowledge and the production of knowledge in the fight against prejudice and discrimination.
