Abstract

The life course perspective has several facets. It is a theoretical orientation that rejects static analyses of individuals' lives and has consolidated theoretical principles capable of emphasising the importance of time as an analytical category and, at the same time, as a broad set of strategies and instruments for longitudinal, biographical research throughout life. It is in the combination of flexible theory and creative methodology that the life course perspective can contribute to a critical look at the way individuals live through individual and historical times.
