Historically, trade unions have been one of the ways of representing workers' interests. It is therefore appropriate to reflect on the place of trade unionism in the historical manifestations of associativism and citizen intervention; on the process of institutionalisation of trade unionism; on the discourses, competing and/or complementary repertoires of action between the different types/models of associativism; on the relations between the state and the different types of associations, including trade unions. It is also important to discuss the models of citizenship that underlie each case.

The colloquium aims to provide a space for debating perspectives, experiences and studies, using the general strike of 18 January 1934 as a starting point and pretext for reflection.
