CIES-Iscte is accepting expressions of interest for the recruitment of a Junior Researcher, under an individual employment contract of indefinite duration, to conduct research activities as part of the project “fAlces—Facial Recognition Technologies: Ethical-Political Arrangements and Alternative Futures.”

Funded by the European Union through the European Research Council (ERC Advanced Grant No. 101140664), the project aims to study the social, ethical, and political impacts of facial recognition technologies.

Responsibilities

The researcher will be primarily and directly assigned to subprojects 3 and 4, focused respectively on NGOs that challenge these technologies and on Black communities vulnerable to associated discrimination. The main tasks include:

• Mapping and Interviews: Identifying and conducting interviews with representatives of NGOs that criticize the expansion of facial recognition technologies.
• Focus Groups: Participating in the organization and facilitation of focus groups with Black communities in selected countries.
• Scientific Output: Writing scientific papers and disseminating them at academic events and in settings for engagement with society.
• Cross-Cutting Activities: Conducting literature reviews, updating databases and the website, as well as participating in and supporting the organization of project meetings and events.
