Revisiting the 19th Century
A pivotal period in contemporary history, the ‘Long Nineteenth Century’ was a time of profound change, from the local to the global, in economics, politics and social transformations. The ongoing seminar Revisiting the Nineteenth Century aims to bring together researchers at different stages of their careers, with innovative theoretical and methodological approaches to the nineteenth century in Portugal, Europe and globally. The seminar will consist of sessions (2 to 3 per semester) lasting 1 to 1.5 hours, with a presentation by a researcher, followed by a discussion with a previously invited debater and the audience. The audience will consist of researchers and doctoral and master's students from Iscte, FCSH and the rest of the academic community. The seminar will be organised by Gonçalo Rocha Gonçalves (CIES) and Paulo Jorge Fernandes (IHC), in collaboration between CIES-Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and IHC / FCSH – Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
