At CIES-Iscte a series of observatories and permanent research laboratories carry out work in relevant scientific areas, promoting public debate on pertinent issues in each area. 

 


Inequality Observatory

Its mission is to make rigorous and up-to-date information on social inequalities publicly available, with a view to citizenship and contributing to the foundation and evaluation of public policies.

Emigration Observatory

It collects and analyzes information on the evolution and characteristics of Portuguese emigration and Portuguese emigrant populations, contributing to the definition and evaluation of public emigration policies.

Portuguese Observatory on Cultural Activities

Its mission is to study, produce and make publicly available rigorous and up-to-date information in the various cultural fields, in order to contribute to current debates in Portuguese society and to the formulation, monitoring and evaluation of public policies.

Laboratory of Social Studies on Birth
nascer.pt

Its aim is to enhance knowledge about the conditions and characteristics of births in Portugal, to contribute to the growth of the Sociology of Birth and to promote cross-fertilization between multidisciplinary structures and approaches in the study of birth, both nationally and internationally.
